North College Park Community Association
May 9, 2019 – Regular Meeting at Davis Hall

Attendance included Mayor Patrick Wojhan; Councilmembers Fazlul Kabir, Kate Kennedy; Guests: Thomas Tanner, Branchville Volunteer Fire Company; Cruz Companies (John Cruz III, Daniel Cruz, Jr., Armond McCoy, Daniel Lynch, Attorney)

Meeting called to order at 7:30 pm.

Agenda approved with two additions. April 2019 Minutes Approved.

Development. Daniel Lynch, Attorney for Cruz Companies, presented a design concept for an apartment building near Branchville Fire Station, between MD 193 University Boulevard and Branchville Road. This is the first public meeting and the company will file a detailed site plan. Concept Site Plan was passed. The development is intended to be a two-level, 80 unit “Workforce Housing.”

State Highway Administration (SHA). President John Krouse recused himself from all SHA discussions and meetings because of his position with the Administration.

Councilmember Fazlul Kabir presented an update on the beltway expansion that will have a negative impact on College Park, such as loss of properties, green space, kill a playground, and increase noise and pollution. Motion was unanimously approved for NCPCA to send a letter (Jordan Schakner signator) in opposition to the beltway expansion in College Park.

Solicitor Signs. Councilmember Fazlul Kabir discussed the need to have “welcome” “solicitor signs” at several of the entrances into North College Park. For example, at Gateway Park and all entrances on to Rhode Island.

Nominations Committee. Volunteers needed for the committee, and request for additional names for the slate of officers.

President’s Report. John Krouse presented highlights of the May 8, 2019 meeting with County Councilmember Tom Dernoga. Park & Planning has budget some money for the proposed North College Park Community Center.

Treasurer Report. NCPCA balance is $787.69.

May 13, 7:00 pm is a “vision and planning” public meeting for the future of Duvall Field
May 14 will be a public hearing on the budge. Vote is scheduled for May 28

Kennis Termini reported: May 11, 8:00 am, Beltsville Garden Club meeting at High Point High School.
General Announcements:
September 2019, City Council is planning to hold meetings at Davis Hall.
Peggy Higgins is retiring. NCPCA thanked her in abstention for her hard work.
Fall 2019. Dog Park is expected to finished. Grass seed will need replacement.
