Attendance: Approximately 43 attendees including: NCPCA Officers; Bridget Warren, Chief of Staff for Councilmember Mary Lehman; Mayor Wojhan; College Park District 1 Councilmembers Kabir and Mitchell; Former College Park Councilmembers Nagle and Cook; Suchitra Balachandran, President, West College Park Citizens Association.
Meeting was called to order by President John Krouse at 7:30 pm.
Ms. Donna Edwards, candidate for Prince Georges County Executive introduced herself, presented her platform, and took Q&A.
Traffic Issues:
Councilmember Kabir presented an update on the gridlock at US 1 & Edgewood Road. Maryland House Bill 672 has been reintroduced to establish “Don’t Block the Box” law, which is supported by the City Council. The members voted unanimously to endorse the City’s support and to send a letter to Senator Rosapepe requesting he supports the passage of House Bill 672.
Councilmember Kabir presented an update on Rhode Island Avenue Traffic, including the planning for new bike lanes on Rhode Island Avenue. Discussion followed.
Mayor Wojhan recognized Mr. Art Silver for his 19 years of service in the City’s Public Works Department. The Mayor has set up a gift donation at https://www.gofundme.com/thank-you-gift-for-art-silver.
Councilmember Kabir presented an update on the City Council’s define of a “legislative body”. Mary Cook made the following motion which passed with one nay:
I move that NCPCA write a letter to Mayor and council urging them to release the October 3 memo from the independent counsel and to postpone any further charter amendments until an opinion is received from the Office of the Attorney General regarding their definition of legislative body.
General Announcements:
President Krouse announced the need for volunteers to help with NCPCA planning and website.
City Clean Up: The Public Works Department is open four Saturdays in April from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
March 15 is The City’s Thirsty Thursday @ Old Maryland Grill.
Training for Neighbors helping Neighbors is being led by Linda Turner on Wednesday @ 9:00 am.
